Marnie Custom Homes’ Carrie Subity Helps Launch Selbyville Middle School’s First-Ever Lacrosse Program
Bethany Beach, DE – [May 6, 2025] – Marnie Custom Homes is proud to celebrate one of our own: Carrie Subity, Office Manager at Marnie Custom Homes, who was instrumental in launching Selbyville Middle School’s first-ever girls’ and boys’ lacrosse teams. Through her dedication, vision, and hard work, Carrie has created a lasting opportunity for students to build confidence, leadership skills, and friendships both on and off the field.
As a passionate advocate for youth sports, a high school field hockey coach at Indian River High School and a mother to three sons — two of whom play lacrosse — Carrie recognized a growing need in the community. Although lacrosse has seen tremendous growth through local recreation and travel programs, Selbyville Middle School had yet to offer the sport, despite a strong high school program in place. Carrie saw the gap — and the opportunity — and decided to help make it happen.
“When my son Grey started middle school last year, I realized how many students would benefit from having a program like this,” Carrie said. “Many middle schools across the state already offer lacrosse, and with our school’s size and the sport’s growth in our area, it just made sense.”
What began as an idea quickly became a community movement. After overwhelming student interest — with over 40 boys and nearly 30 girls attending the initial meeting — Carrie and a team of dedicated parents and staff launched an ambitious fundraising effort. In just two months, they raised more than $20,000 to fully fund the inaugural season, covering equipment, coaching, and uniforms for both teams.
This spring, the Selbyville Middle School lacrosse teams officially hit the field with a no-cut policy, focusing on teaching fundamentals, building team spirit, and creating an inclusive environment for players of all experience levels. Carrie’s focus wasn’t just on winning — it was about giving kids a sense of belonging, building resilience, and helping them develop skills they’ll carry through life.
“Being part of a team teaches you how to deal with adversity, how to lead, how to manage your time — lessons that go far beyond sports,” Carrie shared. “Some of my closest friendships and fondest memories came from being part of a team growing up, and I wanted these kids to have that same opportunity.”
Athletic Director Todd Fuhrmann added, “Carrie was a great help with getting the SMS lacrosse programs started this year. Her hard work and dedication really helped push the fundraising efforts and the interest throughout the program and the community. The addition of the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs has added another opportunity for the middle school students to participate and represent their school on an athletic field. Through Carrie’s efforts, these programs have seen great growth and success.”
The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. Carrie says the energy and support have been amazing — the high school teams have come out to cheer on the kids, and the games have been packed with spectators.
Charlie Gibson, Head Coach of the boys program, added: “Without Carrie, this program would not have been possible. Her hard work and dedication brought this idea to fruition. Seeing the overwhelming response by the community, all sparked by Carrie’s leadership, is truly amazing. On behalf of all the coaches and kids involved, we say thank you.”
At Marnie Custom Homes, we are incredibly proud to have team members like Carrie who bring the same level of passion, dedication, and leadership to their communities as they do to their work. Carrie’s commitment to fostering opportunity and connection mirrors the values we uphold every day.
Looking ahead, Carrie hopes to see the lacrosse program continue to grow, creating a stronger feeder system for the high school teams and perhaps even expanding opportunities down to the elementary school level.
As Carrie says, “If you’re thinking about starting something like this in your community, find a few people who share your passion and just take the jump. The only thing holding you back is the ‘what ifs’ — and the rewards are worth it.”
Congratulations, Carrie — we are proud to celebrate your incredible impact!
